My brand-new logo for a (possible) new website of my own that I’m currently developing in college - hopefully, it’ll be coming to a screen new you in 2018!
It has been a honor to call Barack Obama my President, while also looking to him as a hero & as one of my all-time top role models; I personally felt able to relate more to him than to any other U.S. President: we’re both black Americans, raised by single mothers & later stepfathers, grandmothers who passed away in 2008, lovers of science, science fiction, & of learning to do new things in the modern world.
From his election, his words & from his actions, he’s taught me how to be a good leader, to always believe in myself, work hard, and never give up hope on my dreams to do great things.
And yet, he’s also shown how & why one can & should always be humble and kind, even with fame & success, and that true power is all about what you give to others, more so than what you take for yourself.
He’s shown and told me about not only the possibility, but also the importance, of good balance between raising a family & pursuing a career, even one as the busiest & most difficult job in the world.
Right now I’m single, and I’ve never had my own kids, but someday I want my next girlfriend to be a lot like Michelle Obama: beautiful, healthy & stylish on the outside, but also smart, fun-loving, and benevolent to all kinds of people on the inside.
If I someday ever have my own children, I hope I can as responsible, attentive and loving as a father to them, as Obama was to his daughters, so they can grow up to be just as great, if not greater, than Malia & Sasha.
This day marks the end of Obama’s time as the 44th President of the United States, but no day will ever mark the end of his historic impact - not on America, not on the world, and not on me. His time in office may have lasted only 8 years, but many of the examples he set will inspire me for the rest of my life.
No matter who is President from now on, I’ll always remember to look back to former Presidents like Obama for guidance as I move forward in life, along with Washington, Lincoln, the Roosevelts, Kennedy & Reagan. So for now, I end this post not with goodbye, but with his eternal message to the American people, “Yes We Can”.
